VisitChallenge America Last Update: 2012/2/27 9:12
Description:
Challenge America answers the question of “When it happens, where do we go?” for returning military and their families. By working with communities across the United States to link new and existing services, and by supporting the development of recreational, occupational and housing programs, Challenge America is better able to serve those individuals in their home communities.

Returning warriors and military families are inundated with information from both the public and private sectors. Bridging between the two sectors and providing a user-friendly portal and tool to access and retrieve relevant and pertinent information – information that is truly important to the user – is the key to serving the needs of the warrior population effectively. This will be accomplished by:

• Making information about quality-of-life programs readily accessible via a standardized database searchable by zip code on an easily navigable website
• Expanding the geographic reach of existing quality-of-life initiatives.
• Facilitating conferences, seminars, and publications with a focus on best practices and making relevant and cutting-edge information available to those who need it.
• Challenging the American public to help connect military members and their families to opportunities across the country and in their own backyards.

Through its efforts, Challenge America will create the model for providing services to returning military members and their families for generations to come.

VisitThe Honor Network (United States Honor Flag) Last Update: 2012/2/27 9:13
Description:
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, a flag was gifted to Chris Heisler by the Texas House of Representatives. Like many Americans, Heisler felt compelled to take action during a horrific time for the United States, and with this flag in tow, he set out for Ground Zero. Along the way, Heisler helped to organize one of the longest police motorcades in the history of the United States, bound for Ground Zero bringing many tokens of support together with other agencies, to our nation's Heroes. Since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting our lives, our homes and our country, and also those who currently serve our communities and our nation.

The Honor Network was founded on the conviction that every person who is committed in service to our communities and country deserves the support of every single American, and that an increase in American patriotism is vital in keeping our great nation united.

VisitOperation Write Home Last Update: 2012/2/27 11:17
Description:
Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them.

This merry band of thousands of cardmakers is made up of Americans - and citizens of other nations too - who care about our military, and want to support them through creativity and encouragement. Crafters of all ages and levels of experience have participated since 2007...and in the spring of 2010 we passed one MILLION cards!

Care packages filled with hundreds of handmade cards are sent to our contacts, restocking every 6-8 weeks, and are sent in time for the long journey back home to loved ones. Each box is packed with great care, alternating styles, colors, and cardmakers from all over the USA, creating "eye candy" for heroes who see only khaki around them. The topper on each box is a plastic bag filled with 20-30 letters from adults and children across the country, letters handed out especially to those in need of a positive word from the homefront.

Boxes are shipped through every week of the year, so join us anytime in sending your beautiful creations to help our heroes keep in touch with home!

VisitVets4Vets Last Update: 2012/2/27 11:26
Description:
Mission
Vets4Vets is a non-partisan organization dedicated to helping Iraq and Afghanistan-era veterans to
heal from the psychological injuries of war through the use of peer support.

Vision
Our primary goal is to help Iraq and Afghanistan-era veterans understand the value of peer support and to regularly use peer support to express their emotions, manage their challenges and ease their reintegration into society. Our vision is that anytime a veteran needs to talk with someone who really understands, a local Vets4Vets peer support group is available at no cost. We envision Vets4Vets being a common name in the minds of all veterans as a place where they, and their comrades, can go to heal.

We Believe:

Sharing personal experiences with those who have shared similar experiences is a powerful healing tool.

Peer support does not require professionals.

Peer support can take place in many formats including weekend workshops, one-on-one and in small or large groups.

By taking equal and uninterrupted turns we benefit by both listening and speaking.

By expressing the feelings associated with our experiences, we help each other heal.

In providing an environment that is confidential, safe, and accepting.

Taking part in positive community action, of their choosing, empowers veterans to further promote healing and reach out to other veterans.

Use of drugs and alcohol hinders real emotional healing.

VisitReal Combat Life Last Update: 2012/2/27 11:27
Description:
This site is dedicated to all past, present and future veterans of our Armed Forces. This site will give you a detailed look into what life in a combat zone is really like. Not only will you get battle stories but also a look in to daily lives of those in harm’s way. This site was started after I got out of the Army and found it difficult to answer all questions of what it was really like over there. This site is open to any and all veterans who also want to share some of their experiences. Don’t forget to check out the pictures and links page as well.

Our mission is to provide an online forum for our brave veterans to share their experiences and to educate the public on what life is like in combat from a first hand perspective.

VisitBoot Campaign Last Update: 2012/2/27 11:28
Description:
Our mission is to show tangible appreciation of our active military, raise awareness of the challenges they face upon return and support their transition home.

Buying and wearing the official Give Back combat boots opens the door for an important conversation. 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of our signature boots and merchandise go to our partner veteran’s charities.

APPRECIATION
More than 1.4 million Americans serve in active duty today. What if for every active duty service member there was a civilian sporting a pair of boots in their honor? That action alone sends an important message to our troops. It says “thank you” for their service to protect and maintain our freedoms, often doing so in dangerous and life-threatening situations. It provides the opportunity for a public, active display of gratitude. It unites ordinary people regardless of political or religious views. It serves as a reminder that when we put our boots on, there are people just like us who have sacrificed their lives to protect ours.

AWARENESS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Wearing combat boots does more than show gratitude to our troops. Wearing boots starts important conversations with others about supporting our military. What happens when our military returns home from active duty? Often they are faced with injury and must deal with a difficult transition into civilian life. By purchasing Give Back combat boots or merchandise from the Boot Campaign, 100% of the net proceeds are donated to charity partners.

Consider buying boots like making a donation to honor our servicemen and women around the world. In return, you get a pair of boots that you can wear proudly any day of the week and for every occasion as a symbol of your donation and your appreciation!
