| 4th Annual Veterans Radiothon (John DeBella & WMGK)
| Description: | PVMSEC Executive Director, Marsha Four, goes on the air at the National Constitution Center to explain the importance of supporting veteran services. She also asked WMGK listeners to donate to the Radiothon even if they can only afford a couple of dollars because no amount is too little when it comes to our veterans.
Before Marsha went on the air things were a bit slow. After about a minute of Marsha talking the phones started to get busy with a lot of small donations (and some large ones too). Many of the callers said they had to call and give what they could after being touched by Marsha's speech.
Marsha's talk with John's (WMGK) listeners was bringing tears to the eyes of many (PVMSEC & WMGK staff as well). It was real and to the point. If anyone knows what fighting in a war can do to a person she sure would. Marsha served in the military during the Vietnam War as a nurse from 1969 to 1970. She served in the Army Nurse Corp, 18th Surgical Hospital (ICU/RR) at Camp Evans in Quang Tri, Vietnam. Marsha is not only a hero for serving her country, she was the Hero of the Day at the radiothon. Marsha went on the air three times in the afternoon that day, and each time the phones got busier. Thanks to John DeBella, his crew, the staff of WMGK 102.9 FM, and Marsha Four the radiothon succesfully raised over $60,000 dollars to provide critically needed services to Philadelphia area veterans. |
